Evaluation - 2.0 Technologies of Auburn City Library

The importance of Library 2.0 in Auburn City is for members coming from different backgrounds getting the help they need to learn English in Australia and learning about the library's main learning centre called the "Digital Hub". Digital Hub is a community-based computer training and internet access point containing a number of internet ready computers. It primary purpose is to educate and inform members of the community about the National Broadband Network (NBN). The Digital Hub is to help individuals improve their digital literacy skills and to demonstrate the possibilities of using the NBN.

In the Local Studies section of Auburn City Library, the council has provided the following:

• Back copies of the local newspaper - Auburn Review
• Auburn City Council documents such as minutes of Council meetings, strategic plans and policies
• Photographs of the local area
• Family history resources such as local street directories and cemetery records
• Publications about the local area such as histories of local schools and churches
• A vertical file collection that includes information about various aspects of the Auburn area, such as landmarks and prominent people in the community

The children's section includes a variety of programs for families and their children, they include:

• Baby bounce and rhyme time - half an hour of bouncing songs, rhymes and giggles for mothers or carers and babies aged 0-2.
• Preschool and story time - listen to stories, rhymes and songs, watch finger puppet plays or do crafts.
• Holiday Programs - fun and creative program of holiday activities for school students which include craft, science workshops, special shows and cookery.
• Summer Reading Club - designed to encourage children to maintain their reading during the long summer break from school.
• Homework Help - study support from qualified teachers available on the ground floor during school term.
• Premier's Reading Challenge - aims to encourage a love of reading and to enable students to experience quality literature.

The reference collection includes encyclopaedias,  dictionaries, yearbooks and atlases.  The special collections include NAPLAN, IELTS, legal information (LIAC), drug information (DI@YLL) and  High School Certificate resources (HSC). These items are available for use in the library only.
