Blogging comment to Teacher update:

Exercise 3 on Photo sharing and Flickr has been made.

Comments made to co-bloggers

At this stage, I've only been able to comment on Chaminga's blog page because others have not invited me to their blog pages yet :( Just briefly commented about the similar multi-cultures in Liverpool and Auburn.

Changing the arrangement on Blogger

I have also changed the arrangement design of this blog. Here's how it was done:

Blogger Home -> clicked the title "Social Media Tools in Libraries"
Overview Page -> scrolled down and clicked on [Layout] on the left panel.
Layout Page -> the top center box below the Title, I selected [add a gadget]
Gadget Pop-up Window -> selected 'search box' and followed the prompts to apply the settings.
Layout Page -> I've placed the 'contributors' box on top of 'blog archive' by using drag and drop.
Layout Page -> I clicked [add a gadget] above "contributors" and selected 'translate'.
Translate Page -> named the Title "Lanaguage Mode" and selected radio button 'Drop-Down Only'. Then hit Save.
Layout Page -> finalized customizing by clicking [Save arrangement].

Changing the colour on Blogger

Customized colour of blog by doing the following:

Blogger Home -> clicked the title link [Social Media Tools in Libraries]
Blogger Overview Page -> Scrolled down and selected [Template]
Template Page -> on the right hand side, under the heading "Simple" I then selected the last style by clicking [Apply to blog].

My recommendations for Auburn City Library 2.0

The current use of 2.0 technologies in Auburn City Library hosts a sufficient selection of online resources for the Auburn community, however the navigability of the council's website is quite difficult to browse through.

By improving the user experience of the council page and other main library e-resource pages, this will then appeal the community to gain the exposure of technology. Members will be intact with the current trends of 2.0 Libraries at a fast-paced environment. Just to have a say and input of the current 2.0 technologies that my local library does not provide yet - I have come up with a list below some examples that could make this transition happen in the near future, this includes:

Evaluation - 2.0 Technologies of Auburn City Library

The importance of Library 2.0 in Auburn City is for members coming from different backgrounds getting the help they need to learn English in Australia and learning about the library's main learning centre called the "Digital Hub". Digital Hub is a community-based computer training and internet access point containing a number of internet ready computers. It primary purpose is to educate and inform members of the community about the National Broadband Network (NBN). The Digital Hub is to help individuals improve their digital literacy skills and to demonstrate the possibilities of using the NBN.

In the Local Studies section of Auburn City Library, the council has provided the following:

  • Back copies of the local newspaper - Auburn Review
  • Auburn City Council documents such as minutes of Council meetings, strategic plans and policies
  • Photographs of the local area
  • Family history resources such as local street directories and cemetery records
  • Publications about the local area such as histories of local schools and churches
  • A vertical file collection that includes information about various aspects of the Auburn area, such as landmarks and prominent people in the community
The children's section includes a variety of programs for families and their children, they include:
  • Baby bounce and rhyme time - half an hour of bouncing songs, rhymes and giggles for mothers or carers and babies aged 0-2.
  • Preschool and story time - listen to stories, rhymes and songs, watch finger puppet plays or do crafts.
  • Holiday Programs - fun and creative program of holiday activities for school students which include craft, science workshops, special shows and cookery.
  • Summer Reading Club - designed to encourage children to maintain their reading during the long summer break from school.
  • Homework Help - study support from qualified teachers available on the ground floor during school term.
  • Premier's Reading Challenge - aims to encourage a love of reading and to enable students to experience quality literature.
The youth services of Auburn City includes the following:
  • Youth Services and Programs
  • Auburn City's Young People
  • Auburn City Council's Youth Strategy
  • School Holiday Program Activities for Young People
  • Auburn Youth Dance Group
  • Auburn Football United
  • Auburn Youth Advistory Collective
  • Homework Help Programs
  • Auburn Youth Interagency
  • The Auburn Centre for Community Youth Space
The Auburn City Council's Youth Development Officer is the planner and facilitator for these services. This person would be the best point of contact for further enquiries.

The reference collection includes encyclopaedias,  dictionaries, yearbooks and atlases.  The special collections include NAPLAN, IELTS, legal information (LIAC), drug information (DI@YLL) and  High School Certificate resources (HSC). These items are available for use in the library only.
